SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, that is employed to validate if an email message was sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a particular domain name will prevent the counterfeiting of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this feature for a domain creates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP of the servers that are allowed to send e-mail messages from mailboxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When some e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through checks whether it comes from an official server. When it does, it is sent to the destination address, yet when it doesn't originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. Thus nobody can mask an email address then make it appear as if you are e-mailing spam. This approach is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

If you host your domain names in a website hosting account on our end and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for any of them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in a section of its own where you're able to see which domain names are already protected. For the ones which aren't, you can activate the SPF protection option and configure a number of things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domain names have our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but it can be used in the event that we handle the email addresses for your domains and you're not using another email provider. The newly created records will be activated within 1 day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which is provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting plans, will provide you with an extremely user-friendly interface to enable the SPF protection service for any domain name that you host in your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that then you will only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be allowed to send messages from your e-mails. When the emails are managed on our end and not by another provider, you're able to raise the protection level even more and take advantage of an option for all of the outgoing emails to be sent only if your domains include our MX records. This option provides you with better control and it'll eliminate any possibility of somebody faking your email addresses with the objective of spamming and / or scamming people. It's not applicable in case just your web site is on our hi-tech cloud website hosting platform, while your email addresses are handled by some other service provider. If you aren't sure what features to choose, our tech support team will help you 24/7.
