An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a computer and is the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System which functions as a host for the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs out there and we offer all three of them instead of only one as we realize that you might want to set up some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're different software packages you could install on the hosting server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you want to use one and for this reason we offer multiple Control Panels too. In case you decide that you need to have a different OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the present one and install the one that you want. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different applications may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
