What are the advantages of activating the JailHost functionality? What is 'JailHost', anyway?

If you host multiple websites within the exact same account and one of them gets hacked, it is quite possible that all of them will be hacked after that. There are several reasons why this could happen, the two most common are: using really weak passwords or using older scripts with well-known vulnerabilities. That way, one single compromised site can make a lot of damage to all of your Internet sites, since getting access to a single script normally allows hackers to access the Internet hosting account. This is the reason why we've introduced a new security option called JailHost. Once turned on, this option will literally lock an Internet site within its folder, so if an attacker takes over it, the other Internet sites in the account will be hidden. Thus they'll be protected from further intrusion. The JailHost option doesn't imply that you should not keep your websites up to date, but it'll significantly minimize the damage.

JailHost in Website Hosting

If you host your sites inside a website hosting account from our firm, you could protect them using the JailHost option with just a few mouse clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The option is available with all plans and can be activated for each folder as the domains and subdomains in Hepsia have separate folders, so that files for different websites do not get mixed up as it regularly happens with other Control Panels. We haven't activated JailHost by default because you could use scripts that require access to folders outside the primary website folder and this option could interfere with their proper operation, but securing all of the other folders is very easy. If any secured site gets hacked for whatever reason, we can recover it very quickly as we'll have multiple daily backups of your entire account and you will even be able to browse the available backups using Hepsia.

JailHost in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our semi-dedicated server packages come with JailHost integrated by default. The option is not enabled automatically when you add a domain because you may need to use some script which accesses several folders in the account, but you'll be able to activate it effortlessly from your Hepsia Control Panel and protect the rest of your Internet sites with just a couple of clicks. Hepsia is much better to use for those who have multiple websites since it keeps them in separate folders and does not keep the files for several websites in the same folder like it often happens with various other Control Panels. This enables us to offer you JailHost as all folders can be isolated from each other. In case that any one of your websites gets hacked, we'll be able to promptly restore it thanks to the multiple daily backup copies which we'll keep and in the mean time your attacker will not be able to do further damage since the access to your other websites will be cut off.
